The Woodhull Freedom Foundation marks, with great sadness and concern, the
retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman to serve on the United
States Supreme Court.
Justice O'Connor's sound judgment and her support of privacy and equal
protection, as well as her continued support of Roe v. Wade, often as the swing
vote, were crucial to sustaining the rights and freedoms we continue to enjoy.
Statement by Ricci Levy, Executive Director of The Woodhull Freedom Foundation
"Justice O'Connor's departure marks the start of the battle for the soul of the
Supreme Court. Who replaces her is of immense importance to all of us who
believe that sexual self-determination and expression are core American values
and fundamental human rights.
Woodhull will be monitoring the nominating process and we call on President Bush
to honor Justice O'Connor's years of dedication to the Constitution by naming
someone who will carry on her vision."

through research, advocacy, and public education to affirm sexual freedom as a
fundamental human right.
The global perspective of the Foundation relies on research and analysis of

Through education, we seek to mobilize diverse communities, write modeling
legislation, build alliances, and change public attitudes to advocate for the
